Vipers Game #2: Good Guys Win 8-1!!

Game #2 Summary

The Vipers entered Game #2 of the 2014 season after a strong 7-0 win in the season opener.  Game #2 was very similar to Game #1 with the Vipers demonstrating a relentless barrage of offense on the unsuspecting opponents.

Zach opened the attack and scored the first goal for the Vipers in the 6th minute of the game.  Ethan and Brody followed with goals in the 8th and 12th minutes, respectively.  Ethan and Zach each put a a ball past the goalie in the closing minutes of the 1st half.  The Vipers entered halftime with a 5-0 lead over the Bad Guys.

Conner and Brody dominated the scoring in the 2nd half.  We also saw strong performances from Trey with 4 shots.  Three of those shots would have been goals if it wasn't for the heroic efforts of the goalie on the opposing team.  Gavin showed the sweetest ball-handling move of the day using a backwards kick to pass to his teammate and open up the scrum for a drive up the pitch.  Drew had another strong performance with 2 shots and a handful of key passes that help initiate the Vipers moving the ball up the field.  Once again, strong contribution for each and every one of the Viper players.

Branden (#6) from the Blue Team shifted from defense to offense in the last minutes of the game.  He moved the ball through our defenders and was able to put a shot into the back of the net and score the first goal of the season against the Vipers.  Branden is a strong player, the Vipers did a great job of minimizing the damage he will do against many of the other teams in the league.

Nolan (#4) of the Blue Team also played extremely hard and was a strong challenge for the Vipers throughout the game.

Great effort and performance from all the Vipers, but Ethan deserves the Player of the Day.  He created an incredible amount of activity on offense with two goals, 15 shots, and some highlight real moves along the way.

In summary, each individual on the Blue Team and the Vipers played their hearts out and put on a great game for the crowd of more than 100 fans that showed up on a hot and steamy San Diego evening to watch some competitive soccer.

Game #2 Details

The team looked good before they even hit the field.  Many thanks to Matthew's Mom, Kari, for the names on the back of the uniforms.  The boys also got a big kick out of the new team bench that Ethan's parents provided.

Conner hamming it up before the game started.

Zach getting down and dirty and coming out on top!!!

#4 Nolan on the Blue team is a strong player and he played hard all day.  On this drive, Zach got the best of Nolan and worked the ball up the field with a sick little move where Zach came over the top of the ball to trick the blue team and open the field up for a shot.

Notice the facial expressions on Nolan (blue team) as Zach and him battle for the ball.  These kids are focused and giving it their all!

This is the start of my favorite move!!!

Everybody played hard

Trey sending one in!!!

Conner setting up his team with a corner kick

Brody battlin'!

Blue team is tongue wagging (look at the kid in the back right...that's #4 who played super-hard for the bad guys)!!!

Gavin just passed the ball off to his teammate...and heading up the field for more!  Gavin had the sickest move of the day with a backwards kick to pass it off to a teammate when he was surrounded by bad guys.

Scelfo to Ethan

The "Rocket Launcher"

and the follow through...love to see hard hard Ethan plays the game!

Brody to Ethen

It gets too crowded so Brody sends it outside to Ethan, who worked his magic and finishes with a rocket launcher!!!

!!! Rocket Launcher !!!

Nice Finish !

Ethan is a one-man wrecking crew!!!

Ethan was on fire!  In this sequence, he threads his way through the defense and launches another rocket.

The #9 might have sprained his ankle when Ethan put this move on him!!!

The "Rocket Launcher" - look at that form!!!

And the follow through...this kid has one heckuva a leg!!!

Brody choosing his battle and opting for the sneak attack

Brody breaks the ball free and starts moving up the field.

#4 Nolan (blue team on the right) puts the hammer down.  He played hard all day.

Brody realized #4 Nolan has the jump on him, so he slows up and looks for an opportunity.

#4 Nolan loses the dribble and Brody is there to capitalize on the opportunity.

Brody makes it through the traffic and is ready to setup the shot.

Send the ball to it's home!!!

Brody likes to watch it all the way home!
