Week #5 Results

Week #5 Results Snapshot

Red Vipers def. Sea Serpents (4-0)
Galaxy def. Slime Ballz (5-1)
Creepers def. White Fire (4-1)
Fireballs def. Blue Devils (2-1)

Lil' Jimmy (Fireballs #3) leading the pack.  Honey Badger don't care!

Red Vipers def. Sea Serpents (4-0)

Red Vipers are hot and ready to strike!  Coming into this game with only 1 loss, the Red Vipers are building momentum and look strong from top to bottom.

Scoreboard says 4-0, but it was a battle to get there.  Sea Serpents fought tough from the beginning.  Eli (#2) created the most action for the Sea Serpents, but Evan R. for the Vipers was too much.  Evan put a hat trick on the board and led the Vipers to another strong victory.

Eli (#2) on the move.  He created a lot of action for the Sea Serpents.

Evan R (Red Vipers #5) launching a shot for his 3rd goal of the day - Hat Trick!!!
The Vipers are in 2nd place in the league with a 4-1-0 (Win-Loss-Tie) record.  The Vipers have scored 19 goals but only allowed 8 goals through the first 5 games of the season.  Watch out for the Red Vipers when it's tournament time.  They are a force to be reckoned with.

Galaxy def. Slime Ballz (5-1)

Slime Ballz came to play!  The Slime Ballz played great D, and moved the ball effectively.  Ian (#12) played tough on ALL sides of the ball.  He was a force on offense, defense, AND in the goal.

Ian (Slime Ballz #12) putting Shervin (Galaxy #12) in check early in the game.
The game was tight through the 1st half, but the Galaxy were just too much as the minutes ticked down in the 2nd half.  Dylan (#5) had a couple of breaks that lead to 2 shots, but no goals.  Kyle (#3) pulled a nice save as goalie and 1 shot that was a little wide.

Brett had a very productive day with 4 shots on goal.  Nathan created an impressive break and landed a big shot with his left that the goalie didn't have a chance at, scoring his first goal of the season!  Nathan also had a nice save when he was in the goal.

Kameron scored his first goal of the season with an impressive run through the Slime Ballz and a shot to the corner that just couldn't be covered.  Kameron's first goal felt so good, that he came back for more and landed his second goal for the day....and that's from a player that just started playing competitive soccer a short number of weeks ago.  Way to go, Kameron!!!!  Beast Mode!!!

Shervin and Brody put in the 4th and 5th goals for the Galaxy.

Dillon with a shot on goal.  The Slime Ballz goalie had a good save on this one.

Trevor hustlin'!

Kameron launching this shot for his 2nd goal of the game!!!
Kyle cuttin' hard!  NOTE: High risk of a tongue injury when he's playing hard.
Shervin's wind up!  This one was for a GOAL!!!

Iden working under crowded circumstances

Brody for a GOAL!!!

Brett moving the ball, looking for angles.  He had 4 shots on goal for the day...just a matter of time before those start converting and he's a real force on offense.

Nathan and Iden in the mix

Creepers def. White Fire (4-1)

The match-up was pegged as the Game of the Week and it didn't disappoint.  White Fire have played tough all season and put a lot of points on the board, but occasionly they have struggled to keep opponents out of their goal.  The Creepers are 1-2-1, but have played strongest against tough opponents.  Creepers lost a close one to the 2nd ranked Red Vipers (5-3) in the season opener.  Against all odds, they held the Fireballs scoreless in Week #3.

I don't know the specifics of the action in this game, but the Creepers put on a strong showing to outscore the White Fire, 4-1.

Fireballs def. Blue Devils (2-1)

As the US Navy Blue Angels flew overhead just before game time, the Blue Devils hit the field ready to battle the powerhouse Fireballs.

Blue Angels as seen from our front yard in Mira Mesa as we were packing up to go watch Blue Devils face the Fireballs.

The teams went after it, but neither could establish dominance.

Eilers (#9) was very active for the Blue Devils.

Shelor (Blue Devils #12) seemed to always be in the action.  Ethan is working hard to get the best of this battle, but Shelor get the best of him in this exchange.

Connor about to launch one...this one didn't go in.  Late in the 2nd half, Connor scored for the go ahead goal on a beautiful cross from Drew.
Action was intense as Jimmy (#3) went down after battling for a ball.

Ethan went down in a fight for the ball against Eilers (Blue Devils #9), another kid that seemed to be in all the action for the Blue Devils.
In the 1st half, Drew put one in and the Blue Devils had a squeaker get just over the goal line.  The teams entered halftime tied 1-1.

The 2nd half was tight, with both teams moving the ball up the field, but nobody able to get into the goal.  Still tied with 5 minutes left in the game, Drew moved up the left-side and took a solid shot that was just a little wide to the right...but just enough to let Connor punch it in as he charged in from the back post!  Fireballs with the W in a tight 2-1 game.

Drew tracking the shot move past the goalie.  The shot  was a little wide, but just perfect for a cross to Connor on the back post - and the winning GOAL!!!
